Our history

The company ALESSIO SORRENTINO was born in 1973, but the work, passion and artistic flair of Alessio Sorrentino even before, when at the age of twelve, at the end of the 50s, he was sent to the workshop by "MASTO" to learn the first techniques of burin engraving for the creation of cameos, art of which the city of Torre del Greco was already famous. From the first classic cameos with a woman's face, Alessio has come a long way. Over the years he has refined his art of engraving by applying it to coral, giving life to various works and sculptures in addition to the production of engravings for the creation of jewelry, winning numerous awards. Dal Corallo, the historic symbol of Torre del Greco, has also started to affect other materials, such as the Turquoise from Arizona, the various mother of pearls, the beautiful Conchiglia Rosa. Since 1973, as soon as the company was created, Alessio begins to make himself known throughout Italy and in the world, participating in the most important gold and gemological fairs of those years, starting from Vicenzaoro, to the historic Macef in Milan, to the fairs in Paris, Madrid, Munich, of the Principality of Monaco. Many international Maison have bought a "Face", a "Mashera", a "Flower by Alessio Sorrentino. But besides the production of components for jewelry, Alessio has also become known as a restorer, famous is the restoration of the ancient coral nativity scene in San Martino, but there are also numerous recoveries of sacred objects, in coral, but also in ivory, becoming a reference point for many antique dealers. More than one of his works has been chosen by some important personalities to give it to three Popes and some sovereigns around the world. Today, Alessio, born in 1946, continues to work in his laboratory in via Tironi 11 in Torre del Greco and continues to create "Beauty". With him are his son Vincenzo and daughter-in-law Silvia. Vincenzo followed the in his footsteps as an engraver, through a wide life path, but always intersected with the "La Vecchia Bottega" of the family, and today he creates small large engravings with his father. Silvia has added something more to the company, has united the his ideas and his imagination to the engravings of Alessio and Vincenzo creating unique jewels. Together they export the originality, uniqueness, beauty and quality of their creations all over the world. The goal of the company is to follow and translate the wishes of each customer, trying to understand the character, personality and expectations of each of them to reinterpret them in an object of excellent craftsmanship.

Curiosity about Coral

Coral has always been wrapped in an aura of mystery, which has fascinated man since ancient times. There are numerous legends that have strengthened its magical character, narrating the divine nature of blood-colored branches that inexplicably arose in the dark depths of the abyss. The Greeks were among the first to give coral a divine nature, considering it the petrification of the blood, fallen into the sea, of Medusa, beheaded by the human Perseus with the divine help of Hermes and Athena. Symbol of purity in Christian symbolism, coral did not hesitate to quickly become an icon of wealth and power among the courts of all Europe. Only in the Enlightenment era was its true origin revealed, a discovery which however did not succeed in annihilating the aura of mystery that has always surrounded this material, contributing only to raising it to a perfect synthesis between the vegetable, animal and mineral world. It is only with the contribution of man that coral takes its maximum form. Man who shapes and transforms what was magical into work. Engraving coral is a mystical ritual, with which the engraver, thanks to the skill and experience, manages to bring out its true essence from the rough piece.
